May is typically our recital season and this year it holds a special joy because we’re gathering in person for the first time in two years. How wonderful it’s been to see how families have changed—children taller, voices deeper, babies added. Although we’ve discovered there are benefits to online recitals—far-away family being able to log on, the ease of not having to go anywhere, the comfort of being in a familiar place—there’s nothing quite like watching a student make their way up to the stage, feeling the nervousness and excitement along with them, watching them take their place and face the audience. It’s a big moment. And their faces when they finish! Proud, relieved, amazed. Pleased and a little awestruck that they did something they weren’t sure they could do. And the best part—sharing it with a room full of people who are so, SO happy to be there. —Linda
