We’ve had a lot of fun with nature songs in my classes this spring! Singing about pollination (to the tune of “Alouette” and accompanied by bee puppets and lots of flying around), all the things our friend the wind can do (fly a kite, make leaves fall), and the ever-versatile donkey repertoire (hee-hawing our voices, clomping to the beat, munching carrots) fills the room with a free and silly joy. Outside the classroom harder things may wait, but within our walls we sing and buzz and bray and laugh. We enjoy each other—the children and their grownups, the teacher and her students. We learn catchy melodies. We wave colorful streamers. We pause the rest of life and remember how good it feels just to sing. Can’t wait for summer! —Linda
